Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia

Frequently Asked Questions

5. Is there a test to see if my partner is a carrier for P.C.D.?

Not at the moment. Researchers at University College London and around the world are working on it, watch this space!

At the moment when a child is born with P.C.D. from parents with no symptoms of P.C.D., it is assumed that they are both carriers. The gene that passes the P.C.D. on is said to be 'recessive'. The way two brown eyed parents can have a blue eyed child is also a recessive gene, they are able to carry the gene for blue eyes without having them themselves.

If you need further advice about genetic issues ask to be referred to a genetic counsellor. This leaflet from the Genetic Interest Group entitled Frequently Asked Questions may help.
